So far in hiphop the albums everyone has praised a lot this year are the most overrated pieces of trash I've heard. The three albums I'm talking about are:
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
Common - Be
and of course Kanye West - Late Registration
None of these artists did anything original or groundbreaking on these albums. The best song out of all three of these albums features Paul Wall. The production on all of these albums is basically the most boring same old same old we've been hearing forever. Everyone flocks to these mediocre snooze fests because everything else released is so packaged and forced that it makes these look good. Meanwhile there are albums like Grayskul's Deadlivers, Sleep's Christopher, and the upcoming releases of Cage and P.O.S. that are all doing something amazing with hiphop and are being overlooked.
It's irritating.

However, on the other hand, I can't fucking wait for the new P.O.S. - I got sent a Doomtree showcase CD and they are bringing it so hard in that crew. Lazerbeak's beats are dope as hell, and if P.O.S' first album is anything to go on, his new one will slay everything.

But as far as groundbreaking, the new Blackalicious is fucking dope.

It's not that boundaries have to be pushed, it's that artists have to evolve. Two albums that are exactly the same or don't show any progression don't work with me.
